A glass installation specialist has invested in a Winlet glazing robot supplied by Hird Sales after carrying out extensive technical research and concluding it is the best machine on the market.

Butler Glass, based in Port Talbot, Wales, has bought the battery electric Winlet 400 TL glazing robot, which went straight out on a glazing job and has been busy ever since.

The glazing robot has a maximum lifting capacity of 415kg, can lift loads up to a height of 3635mm and has a double hydraulic boom that can extend a load to a distance of 1950mm from the front bumper.

Winlet glass lifter ‘a clear winner’

Company owner James Butler explained: “I’ve used most glazing robot brands over the years and I looked at them again when I decided we should have our own machine.

“The Winlet came out as the clear winner. It’s got features and performance characteristics that make it easier to install glass with complete precision. It’s an impressive piece of kit.

“It also worked out less costly than its competitors and the Hird Sales team is great to work with. They’ve been very helpful, and the after-sales service is excellent. All-in-all, it’s a great package.”

Hird Sales Area Sales Manager Liam Buckley said: “We’re very pleased to welcome James and his team to the Hird family. His Winlet 400 TL is already doing brilliant work.

“As the glazing robot helps Butler Glass develop its service for installing heavier glass, there are other glazing robots the company can invest in with capacities right up to one tonne.”

Excellent performance over challenging ground

The Winlet 400 TL glazing robot delivers very good all-round performance. Its all-terrain credentials are already proving useful in helping take glazed panels over low curbs and across slopes.

Highly responsive controls – for example, the Butler Glass team likes simple things like the way the Winlet robot does not roll forward or back under braking – increases confidence.

Butler Glass has chosen a machine with a wireless remote control unit and full-electric vacuum head rotation, features that support safe glass installation in specific conditions its teams often work in.

James Bulter said: “We have a lot of hills in South Wales, so having electric rotation will help us position panels precisely when working across unevenly sloping ground.

“The wireless remote control has already helped us with a large 250kg panel that had to be manipulated from the outside through an aperture and back into the frame.

“It meant the operative could be located in the best position for each stage of the installation. We also like the Winlet’s progressive speed control. This also supports precise and safe installation.”

Industry-leading compactness a big plus

The glazing robot also boosts safety and productivity, largely eliminating manual handling risks, and allowing installations to be carried out with smaller teams, so Butler glass personnel can cover more projects.

On top of all these performance-enhancing features, the Winlet 400 TL is lighter and more compact than rival machines, so the team can transport it in a van, rather than on a trailer.

This is a key advantage when working in constrained city centre spaces, while also keeping the glazing robot dry and secure.

James Butler is confident his new Winlet 400 TL will provide a big boost for his business, not least because he is receiving more and more requests to lift heavier glass.

He also expects to win new business, using his Winlet 400 TL to provide a contract lift and installation service for other glazing contractors.
